Ramer School Parent and Community Engagement Plan

 

Statement of Purpose:

To jointly develop with parents a written involvement plan to provide for parents and community members the opportunity to become aware of local, state and federal requirements regarding education, to provide opportunities for volunteers to work within the school, and provide opportunities and information to help parents work with their children to help them succeed in school.

 

The Parent and Community Engagement Policy will be included in the student handbook which is distributed at the beginning of each year.

 

Goal Statements:

 

I.                  The school will have open and flexible meetings for the purpose of  providing information regarding school and student achievement, state curriculum and Title I School requirements. * The school will hold open, flexible, and regular meetings and give parents the opportunity to participate in decisions relating to education of students and respond to questions in a timely fashion.

A.     Annual Title I Open House for parents to meet teachers, learn requirements of Title I Schools, and share curriculum standards.

B.      Fall and Spring Family Nights with training sessions for parents.

C.     Parent\Teacher Conference

D.     Tech Coach training for parents and students interested in improving their knowledge and use of computers.

E.      Meeting to share school and student achievement data and explain assessment tools used to measure student progress.

F.      Grade level parent meetings to share expectations as well as state standards.

G.     PTO, Athletic Booster Club, and Band Boosters so parents can support and make decisions regarding extracurricular activities.

H.     Annual Title I Planning meeting with parents to prioritize needs,* review and revise plans\compacts, hold flexible meetings, and plan budget allocations.

II.                The school will jointly develop a School-Parent Compact.

A.     The Compact will outline the responsibility of teachers, students and parents in regard to the education of students.

B.      The Compact will be reviewed and distributed to stakeholders annually.

C.     A committee of teachers, parents and students will review the Compact annually.

D.     The Compact includes the School Level Parent Involvement Plan.

 

III.             Coordination between home and school

A.     A Home School Coordinator will be used as liaison between school and parents.

B.      This person will do a follow-up with parents whose students have been referred for additional assistance.

C.     The school coordinates with the Head Start program and incoming parents of Kindergarten parents.

D.     The school coordinates health services through the school nurse.

 

IV.            The school will provide a Parent Resource Center

A.     Located in the front office.

B.      Information, material, and videos to assist parents.

 

V.               The school will communicate with parents and community on a

systematic and continual basis

A.     Firm, Fair, & Consistent monthly newsletter

B.      Monthly calendar of events

C.     Weekly teacher newsletters

D.     Interim grade reports and minimum of each 3 weeks

E.      Student planners which include handbooks and offers an opportunity for parents and teachers to correspond.

F.      Shared student achievement results and school report card.

G.     Notes from administration

H.     School and District web page.

I.         Local newspaper

J.        School sign

 

VI.            Volunteers will be encouraged as an essential component of

student success.

A.     To assist in the classroom and act as resource personnel.

B.     To serve on various committees to develop policies,* review and revise plans and compacts, including Community Engagement Plan and Parent, Teacher, Student Compact.

C.     To assist with fund raising activities.

D.     To chaperone field trips.

E.      To assist with special events.
